Now my right knee is sore when I am walking or standing up. Even after limiting my runs to two times in the past 10 days, it is still sore. This has never happened over the past four years. Normally I don't get a sore knee doing normal day to day activity like walking.
As of today, the chances of me running in the KL International Marathon is quite slim. It is only two weeks to KLIM and I am hoping within that period, I will be at least be OK to start the race. Whether I am going t0 have knee problems at which distance during the race is uncertain. (But I think it is inevitable).
I have given a lot of thought on whether to continue running after KLIM. Balancing my enjoyment of running and doing races versus being able to do normal day-to-day activities without a painful knee is leaning me towards ending my running activities.
KLIM could be the last race I ever run. I will take a break from running after KLIM . It may be several weeks of rest (minimum two weeks) or it may be longer, perhaps several months. Or in the worse case scenario, I have to stop running altogether.
I won't be updating this blog until shortly before KLIM; I won't be running in the next 2 weeks.

ya man, hope it wont be that serious as to warrant a drastic move. hope things work out ok. but rest you should.
Haizad, I hope it's not as serious as that, until you have to stop running altogether. Perhaps some proper rest will get you back in running.
Perhaps if you need to make a choice between this year's KLIM and still being able to continue running, then the later would be a better choice.
I hope things work out for you. Keep us posted, and take it easy for now.
Cheers,
DK
Quit running? Say it isn't so.
Every serious runner I know have suffered some form of injury. From the very serious to the very minor. They've all bounced back. And most have done one thing in common. REST. It can be the hardest thing to do but it's so nessesary.
I do hope your injury is not that serious. I agree with DK, if you have to give up anything let it be KLIM. Rest and come back much stronger.
On another note, have you tried taking Glucosamine? I've been taking it for over 2 years now and I've not experience any joint aches or pains ever since, even during my high mileage sessions. I buy mine from GNC. It's called Glucosamine Chodoritin.
hope u don't mine me saying.
start resting now until recovery. skip this marathon since u know u gonna be injured. he who runs away lives to fight another day.
Maybe its the age factor
Thanks for advice. I have been taking glucosamine and other stuff which builds-up cartilage for the past 4 years. However the meniscus is something else. The stuff may or may not work for meniscus.
Aiya....don worry,I face more worst than u b4.It should ok after u take enough rest, don simply said give up lah.We all as runner must aim run until very very old leh.!
When we meet,I can show u how lucky my foot,if not,I can't walk or run liao..!
If can run,may be wait after u injury fully recover.
What a bummer. I too had a knee problem many years back. The pain was at the lower side of the kneecap and would hurt after 50 metres. I laid off for several months, testing with a short jog every now and then, stopping as soon as I felt any pain. Gradually I was able to increase the distance and have since had been able to run normally although once in a while the knee would remind me that the problem is not totally gone.
You probably don't have the same problem I have. What I'm saying is that you may not have to stop running altogether. Take a break from running and see how things work out.
The effectiveness of glucosamine and chondrotin is still inconclusive. What is certain is that not everyone experiences the same benefits. Even then it's not entirely certain the benefits are derived from glucosamine and chondrotin. I've tried them for some time but gave it up.

forget KLIM ... you'll just prolong the injury ... we do it together next year ... theres always next year N so many other marathons
the universal remedy for anykind of injury is rest
once a runner is always a runner ... runners never quit
haizad
take up swimming while you're resting the injury ... thats wat i'm doing now ... plus cycling .... but cycling would kacau ur knee jugak so stick to swimming only
swimming has it's own 'high' as well
