My Car Accident Yesterday Reckless Driver

I had an accident on Sunday afternoon at the Sungai Buloh area on the North South Highway.

It was raining heavily and the cause of the accident was a stupid driver of a Kancil car (black colour) who drove recklessly. Kancil is a small car not suitable for high speed driving especially during rainy conditions. I should know as besides the Proton Waja, I also own a Kancil car.

A few minutes before the accident, I saw the Kancil overtaking from left and right directions like nobody's business. I was driving on the fast lane (rightmost) at 110 km/hr - within the speed limit of 110 km/hr. The Kancil was travelling at about 130 km/hr. A crazy speed for a small car moving in heavy rain.

There was a Hyundai car in front of me. Suddenly I saw the Kancil on the middle lane careened to the rightmost lane and then hit the divider hard. It spun around before stopping in the middle lane. I braked as soon I saw the Kancil hit the divider. The Hyundai driver also braked and both us slowed down and stopped.

From the driving mirror, I saw a car approaching from behind and it was not stopping. I was sure it was going to hit me. So I put my head back on the head rest and put both my arms on the steering wheel, press the brake pedal hard and braced for the inevitable collision. Boom! - the car hit the rear. The impact knocked the breath out of me. My car weighing 1250 kg moved forward about 1 -2 m and hit the Hyundai in front.

The damages sustained by my car is shown on the 4 photos.

Neither me, the 2 occupants of the car (Proton Waja) behind me or the Hyundai were seriously injured. As of now, I have a stiff neck due a whiplash effect when my head moved forward upon impact. The 2 occupants got away with sore shoulders and body. The Hyundai driver was OK except for a dented bumper.

And the Kancil driver? I heard he escaped uninjured although in my unkind moments, I would have liked to see him end up at the hospital to teach him an unforgetable lesson.

Later I asked the police what the Kancil driver said when the police asked him at what speed he drove. The driver said 60 km/hr. I told the police the actual speed of the Kancil driver - 130 km/hr. The police didn't believe the 60 km/hr story either.

The car in the workshop now for repairs. I am not sure how the car will perform after the repairs. From the photos, the car seems to have sustained structural damage as seen from the misaligned doors. (The door on the driver side was jammed shut).

Thursday - Lousy Day and Nude Running

Today was not a good day.

I woke up at 2.30 am as I had to go the toilet. I was having a diarrhea attack. I could not sleep much after that visit - had an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach.

At 4.30 am, I went again. The third time at 5.30 am.

Woke up groggy from lack of sleep (3 hrs) . I wanted to take the day off but I couldn't as I had to attend a meeting at 11.30 am. I felt weak due the effect of the diarrhea.

At the office, between 8.00 am to 2.00 pm, I made three more visits to toilet. I felt a bit better after 2.00 pm. The diarrhea seems to have dissapeared but I was stil feeling weak.

At 5.30 pm, I considered whether to run or not at KLCC. I was still feeling a bit weak and my right knee was very sore. Probably it was in the worst condition over the past 3 months. Finally I decided to go to KLCC maybe just to walk or run 1-2 laps.

I was really not in a mood to run. After doing some unenthusiastic stretching, I ran one lap. My knee was in bad shape - felt like the thigh and lower bones grinding against each other. Very sore.

After 1 lap, I stopped and stood, wondering what to do. Run, walk or go home?

FInally I decided to run. Saw Yong on his 3rd lap approaching my position. I joined him. Right knee did not seemed too bad when I ran another 4 laps (5.2 km).

After the 4th lap, I stopped, walked another lap. Knee was still sore but it was not too bad when walking. While walking, speedy Li Sar ran past at a fast pace.

I spent a few more minutes chatting with Gan. Hobbled off to the LRT station afterwards.

Total distance run = 6.5 km
Total distance walked = 1.3 km
No. of visits to the toilet = 6 times
Total amount of sleep = 3 hrs.

Tonight I figured out the source of my diarrhea. I had fried tofu last night but it tasted bitter and I spat most of it out. But I had eaten a tiny piece from the initial bite. All it took was a tiny piece to cause my diarrhea.

I am going to bed now - got to get some sleep.

One last thing : my friend, Fadzli has a new website : Run Around Naked ? Strange title - Wonder if he has run naked or wants to ? If anyone wants to run naked, please visit these sites:-

Slim Girl and Fat Girl

Today I was looking forward to run at KLCC but it rained heavily in KL.

It was off to the treadmill at the gym for a run. First I had to buy new batteries for the MP3 player. I programmed the treadmill for 5 km distance with a random 2 degree gradient. Speed was set at 11.0 km/hr. After finishing 5 km, I ran another 1.0 km at a faster speed , 12 km/hr. It felt good.

I won't write much about my treadmill session but about another thing. Two treadmills away, there was a girl running as well. She ran with a strange style , on the forefoot like PM19 but not as elegant. She was leaning forward too much with very high knee lift. She also swung her arms high like a 100 m sprinter. Her style was very awkward. It looked as if she would fall forward but she did not.

She wore a tight blue colour T-shirt and knee level black colour pants. Both were worn tight, following the contour of her body. Slim build with a small waist maybe 24 or 26". Well proportioned upper and lower body if you know what I mean (I won't go into the details). I couldn't see her face clearly as she wore a Batik bandana.

I don't know how to explain my feelings when I saw her. It is like seeing a glorious sunset, soaring mountains or a field filled with beautiful flowers . A gift of from god that such beauty exists. Yeah - that was my feeling. Luckily it rained today in KL so that I could see such beauty.

In complete contrast to the above, I took a taxi from Klang to go home. There was another guy waiting there as well. A girl sauntered over to board the taxi. She wore white T-shirt and black colour pants.

She was very fat with huge hips, I guess she would be in the super obese class (BMI > 30) . Worse was to happen , the taxi guys offered her a cigarette. She took it and lit the cigarette. I saw this and immediately step into the front seat. The other guy sat in the rear near the fat girl Poor fellow but better him than me!.

It was only a 3 minute ride. While in the taxi , she continued to smoke but I had chosen my seat wisely. Not much cigarette smoke reached me. But the air in the taxi stank. She stank.

As I left the taxi, I glanced at the rear seat. She was sitting there, fully reclined, puffing away on the cigarette.

The contrast was never more apparent between the slim and healthy girl I saw at the gym and the obese female smoker.

Being overweight or obese is bad enough for health but a smoker as well? And maybe never do any exercise?

Sunday : 22 May NB-Pacesetter 15 km race

I first heard about this race from Azwar in 2001 or 2002. He was raving about the excellent race organisation and unheard for race in Malaysia, a post race breakfast. But he also said it was tough, very tough with lots of undulating roads from start to finish.

After having missed the previous years 15 km races, at 10.00 am on Saturday morning I was at Taman Tasik Perdana 10.00 am to collect the race bibs, vest and race instruction. My right knee was giving me problems again but I hoped by Sunday morning it would be alright. Met Ryan Teoh as I walked towards the car park. After leaving the park, I went the Giant Supermarket at Kelana Jaya. For lunch I had Laksa which I shared with my friend. It was 2.00 pm when I left the supermarket. I was planning to catch Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith at TGV cinema, Bukit Raja shopping centre. Drove very fast to get there in time.

On Sunday morning, my right knee was still sore but I decided to go ahead with the race. I reached the Bukit Aman car park at 6.15 am. I thought I was early but I was wrong - the car park was filled to the brim. For some 15 minutes, I drove around looking for a place to park the car. Finally managed to park illegally along a road. But I had no idea where I was and how far it was to the starting line.

I saw some runners walking and I just followed them. In fact there must have been hundreds.

Everyone was suited in the requisite high tech gear; Coolmax , Dri Fit T-Shirt running vest and short. There was not a T-cotton shirt in sight that is except me ; I was wearing my frayed No name Blue colour T-shirt and Brooks shorts. Compared to the other runners in their gear, I looked like someone from Ulu (Village).

I felt a little bit intimidated by the super super runners around me. This was after all a race among peers, the hard core runners and tri athletes. I felt a little out of place wearing my T-Shirt even if it was made of Coolmax. Everyone walked purposely towards the starting area, everyone looked sleek and fast enough t0 outrun a Rottweiler dog. Except me.

While these negative thoughts swirling in my mind, a familiar voice greeted me. It was Steven and his brother. He pointed at a the hill where we would soon run up. Hill - so early in a race ? I felt more relaxed after the chat and reminded myself to be more relaxed. No point to worry about it now.

Near the starting line , many familiar faces were around; Ajeep, Ronnie. Azwar, Ryan Teoh, Jason, Jessica, Yong (my long run training partner), Kenneth, Justine, John, Kenny and Sim (all the way from Johor Bharu) . Almost everyone was there except Jamie as he went to Bangkok for a holiday. Later heard he had run a 5 km race and finished in the top 30. Newton was not there as well - on holiday too.

The starters were divided into 3 barricades; below 60 mins, 60 to 90 minutes and above 90 minutes. I went into the 60-90 minutes section.

The race started at 7.00 am. The runners surged forward only to be slowed down to a walking pace because of the narrow crowd. Some desperate runners resorted to running on the grass to bypass the traffic jam. I was content to run slowly to warm up.

Soon we reached the hill which Steven had earlier pointed to me. It had looked steep but I found it was easy to run up with hardly any effort. I say Yong, Ajeep and Jessica further up and wanted to catch up. But I could not make my way past the slower runners. Frustration!

Near the top of the hill, I quickened my pace and got pass the slower runners. I ran fast to catch up with the the 3 runners I mentioned. I caught up with Ajeep and Jessica. Yong was running strongly further ahead.

The initial route alongs roads leading along Bukit Tunku. I did not have much trouble and reached the 5 km mark in about 25 minutes. Overtook many runners along the way to the more challenging Bukit Tungku. This was a familiar route for my Sunday morning long run. It was harder to run with more hills but I still managed to keep going. Overtook Stephen somewhere along this area and met Karim here too. A sub 1 -1/2 time seems to be achievable.

The worst stretch was up very steep roads leading to Sri Carcosa. I almost gave up but had to walk as my I felt the beginnings of of a cramp in my left leg. Ajeep, Jessica and Yong was nowhere in sight.

Things were better after passing the challenging stretch. I recovered and increased my pace in short burst. At the 10 km water station, I caught up with Yong. We ran together for a short while but my "rapid pace" sin caught up with me. I had to walk again for some time.........

After recovering, I began to run again. The road back to the finishing line was along Bukit Tunku again. It was not going to be easy. I mustered my determination to keep going but sometimes had to walk. Eveytime I walked hordes of determined and persistent runners overtoook me. The cheerleaders helped to keep me going - I just wished they were wearing shorter skirts and jiggling the poms poms more vigorously.

As I went pass the Tugu Negara, the road was downhill to the finishing line. With great relief, I coasted downhill to the Taman.

A signboard appeared shwoing 500 m. I ran faster and counted down the distances, 400, 300, 200, 100 m. Then I crossed the finishing line, received my medal and staggered passed the officials on shaky legs.

My time : 1 hr 22 minutes 43 seconds.

I knew I could have run below 1 hr 20 minutes if I had not walked for about 6 minutes. But sometimes we can't run a perfect race and there have to be compromises.

After the race, the runners met each other , talking, reliving the race, taking photos and gossiping like old men in a kopi tiam (Coffee Shop). Old men sitting in a kopi tiam don't run 15 km on tortuous roads on a Sunday morning. We did.

Talked to Yong later about running the double "Double Hill" route sometime in June.

My thanks to the Pacesetters clum members who organised this race and the volunteers.

Women Runners at KLCC

Nowadays there are more female runners running regularly at KLCC. It is a good thing for us, male runners to see more female runners at KLCC.

Back in 1999, when I started running at KLCC, there were only 3 female runners. One was a Malay girl who wore a a half top T-shirt, a rare sight anywhere in Malaysia. In my first Penang Bridge run in 1999, she actually overtook me despite starting 15 minutes later. I haven't seen her since 2002 so I guess she has moved somewhere else.

Another runner is Ms Lee, a veteran athlete who used to run for Malaysia. She no longer trains at KLCC. I am not where she is now as I have not seen in races over the past 3 years.

There was another female runner, Connie. She usually ran quite late, starting at about 7.00 pm. I heard she was married in 2003, became pregnant and retired fro running. Too bad as she was a good runner.

For us, the male runners, female runners are welcomed as it gives us the chance to run with others besides the regulars runners (mostly guys). There were times when I kept going because I was running with a female runner. There were also times when I indulged and maybe looked a little longer (stared, I have to admit) at the more attractive female runners.

Hurray for the female runners at KLCC!

There is hope for cigarette smokers

On Sunday evening, I ran with a long time Klang Pacer Athletic club member, Mr. X. We ran 6 km on the roads along in the housing estates. Mr X was the one who introduced me to the club. After finishing the run, we walked in the stadium, Mr. X said "I used to smoke 20 cigarettes, a day".

Did I hear that right ? Mr X is the epitome of fitness and health. Looking at him, I can hardly believe it he is a former smoker. He added he quit smoking just after he joined Klang Pacer club. In fact, he had smoked cigarettes since his school days. He was still a smoker during the early days in the club. The other club members looked at him in strange way when he smoked after the training sessions. One day, he decided to quit "cold turkey". He stopped. Just like that 15 years ago. He is no longer a smoker but is now a runner.

Weekend Running Activities

Saturday
On Saturday, I was wondering what do to on Sunday morning when Yong SMSed me at 5.30 pm. The SMS solved the problem - I will be running 20 km Sunday morning.

Saturday was a rest day but as usual in the evening, I was going for a brisk walk but then Kenneth showed up. This guy was not going to walk so I ran 7 (?)x 400 m with him. Total = 5 x 400 m (2.0 km) and 5 x 400 m walking (2.0 km). Later Kenneth handed over Body Glide to me.

Sunday
I was at Bukit Aman at 5.45 am after little sleep. It had been a warm night and I found it hard to get to sleep. Must have got only 4 hrs sleep. I was a bit sleepy as I sat in the car waiting for Yong. Outside the car, it was a hive of activity as there was a least 20 runners. I guess everyone must be anxious about the 15 km race on 22 May.

Soon Yong showed up and we were off at 6.00 am. We were not planning to run fast but somehow we did. I noticed we were running a lot faster than usual pace of 6 min 45 sec. per km. I think it must be the 15 km race that led us to run faster than usual. Unconciously, we wanted to test our speed/stamina.

All the way to to Sri Hartamas, there was not single runner in sight. I think the others must be running the 15 km race route. I had forgotten to start my stopwatch function, so I had not idea how fast we were running. We did not merely jogged up the many hills but attacked them hard.

When we reached the petrol station at Sri Hartamas, I asked Yong the time we took. " 58 minutes". Wow ! I was suprised, normally it was 65-66 minutes. We bought a can of Gatorade here and for me a bag of ground nuts. We finished the Gatorade and in less than 2 minutes we were off again.

Our pace did not slacked off on the return route. We ran up the hills like possessed runner wee were that morning. Near "Monkey" hills, there were no monkeys around and I scattered the peanuts near some trees.

We eventually stopped near the traffic lights at Jln Parlimen near the junction to Lake Gardens. Our time? 1 hr 52 minutes for 20 km. 20 minutes faster than our normal time of 2 hrs 15- 20 minutes.

As we walked back to the car park, the runners in the World Asthma Run ran by us. Saw Ronnie running in the top 20 position.

Although we had not planned to run fast but I was glad that we did. The run gave an indication of my current state of fitness. The verdict ? It was not too bad considering the lack of speed training. I could probably run the 15 km race in slightly less than 1 hrs 30 min.

P.S. That evening I was at the stadium again. I should have rested but ended up running 6 km.

Total mileage this week = 58. 4 km

This Week's Running Update

This update covers the period from Monday to Friday.

It has been fairly good week of running for me. On Monday it was a rest day from Sunday's 21 km long run. I ran from Tuesday to Friday,4 days in an row. This week was somewhat unusual as I had the urge to run fast.

Tuesday
It started on Tuesday when I ran with Gan. Gan was doing his power walk and I jogged along for 2 laps (2.6 kim) . After a while. Gan said he would join me for a run. And what a run it was. Uphill, we sprinted and downhill we ran slower for recovery. It was hard going but totally fun and exhilarating. We did 3 laps (3.9 km) of normal and hard interval runs. After finishing the run. I walked another 2.6 km to get the adrenaline of the system.

Distance = 6.5 km. 2 fast laps.

Wednesday
The regular gathering of runners at KLCC. I ran for 7.8 km. The first 4 laps (5.2 km), I ran with the regulars like Newton, Yong, Kenneth. On my own, I did 2 laps at faster pace. Felt pretty good . Even managed to overtake Li Sar but only for a while. She overtook me later.

Distance = 6.5 km. 2 fast laps

Thursday
After putting in 2 days of speed work sessions, I wanted to run easy at KLCC. So I ran with Jamie and Newton at KLCC for 4 laps (3.9 km). After my 3rd lap, Jamie stopped then Netwon too stopped at the 4th lap. BY then Sam was running with us , so I continued running with him for 3 laps.

We ran each subsequent lap faster than the one before. A crazy to do for my easy day.

Distance - 7.8 km

Friday
esterday was supposed to be rest day but the weather was so good. Too tempting so at 5.50 pm, I was at KLCC again for the 4th consecutive day.

I ran with Newton, Li Sar and Loong at a really easy pace of 8 min per 1.3 km.

Collected bibs for the Asthma run from Ronnnie.

Ran 7.8 km. After we finished. as Ronnie, Newton, Li Sar and me chatted , Justine showed up at 7.00 pm.
I think he was a bit dissapointed that we had all finished our runs.

Total distance = 6.5 + 6.5 + 7.8 + 7.8 km = 29.6 km.

Sunday - 21 km Run and Fight against Nature (Long report)

On Sunday morning there was a15 km trial for New Balance-Pace Setters 15 km run on 22 May 2005. By 5.50 am, the car park at Bukit Aman was crowded with cars and runners. Usually there will only be half a dozen cars on Sunday morning. While waiting for Yong, I ate a Snickers bar but I couldn't finish it, too sweet for my taste.

Yong showed up just before 6.00 am. A crowd of runners was gathered near the car park entrance. Met John and his wife but I did not recognise most of the runners.

By 6.05 am, Yong and I was ready to run our normal 20 km route. It was a cool morning as it had been raining since 3.00 am. Perfect conditions for a long run. The only problem for me was I wanted to defecate. The toilet at the park is open at 7.00 am. What to do ? I had to fight against nature and hold it back at least until we reach the Sri Hartamas petrol station. That was 10 km away and about 1 hour from where I was.

As we ran along Jalan (Jalan - jln=road) Parlimen, a grey coloured van sped along on the slippery road. It must have been going at 140 km/hr. Then a bus passed by at a frightful speed. If anyone was to be hit by any these two vehicles, it would be a certain death.

The route was devoid of runners as almost everyone was running the 15 km route. We ran along steadily up Bukit Tungku roads. This morning was different as many of street lights were on. The normally pitch black road was well lit. What was going on ? Had there been a spate a robberies in the area resulting in complaints from residents to switch on the street lights ?

I felt quite comfortable and it was indeed a good morning to run. Ocassionally I had to re-establish control and fight the urge ........ The sensations passed away and order was restored. Occasionally we took turns to lead the run.

At the Jln Kuching intersection, we had to make a long detour as the workers have closed the gaps between the barriers. This was the most dangerous stretch with the most number of vehicles. Some of the drivers may well be drunk and high on drugs. Designer drugs are now the rage among the youths and disco goers.

Steadily we ran up the steep road to Sri Hartamas. While running we had a good chat about many subjects. Again I had to fight the "Urge" Not to worry, I was only 2 km away from the petrol station. Yong asked me if I wanted to run farther than the petrol station. This was the 21 km route instead of the routine 20 km. I agreed. So we ran farther around a playground, along a steep road and doubled back to the petrol station.

At the petrol station, we bought and dranks Gatorade (350 ml). We had reached here in 65 minutes. So far it has been a comfortable and great run. Even my "Urges" had dissapeared so I decided not to make the toilet "run".

After 3 minutes, we started our run back to Bukit Aman. There were very few people on the road. Even the filipino maids waiting at the side of the roads are missing. 5 minutes along the urge became worse. I was about to explode. As I ran along, I considered the options:-
  • Stop by the Indonesian construction shacks and use their toilet (last resort).
  • Ask the guards at the condos for me to use the toilet inside (unlikely).
  • Find some bushes and do it there (best option).
As we ran past a "jungle", a thin mist covered the tree tops. A mist covered trees is a rare sight in Kuala Lumpur. Yong remarked that this morning run was great as the air was fresh and temperature cool. I replied that yes I agreed but most people would be breathing fresh air in their cars instead of running 20 km on Sunday morning.

As we ran past the mist covered jungle I spied some thick trees an bushes near past the Hartemas shopping centre. Maybe I could just hide behind the trees and do my business. Luckily the "urge" dissapeared and resume my focus on running.

We went reached the barriers at Jln Kuching but we stopped at the wrong spot. Ended up walking 100 m underneath 3 sets of scaffolds. We had to be very careful when we were to step over the barriers. Vehicles just whizzed by as though were were invisible. A slight gap to the incomingtruck (50 m away) and we dashed off to the side.

We continued running towards Bukit Tunku. Near the tax dept? I saw some black shapes on the left side of the road. The black shapes were monkeys. Most were infants and the entire troop ran off as we went closer. They dissapeared into the a patch of trees. I noticed the bare earth behind the trees and it appears there is construction in the area. Soon the trees will be cut and I felt sorry for the monkeys. Soon they will not have enough to eat. When I run this route again, I will bring some peanuts for the monkeys.

By now, the sun was fully up as we ran towards Bukit Tunku. Some cops were manning the crossroads for the runners taking part in Laria Anti Dadah (Anti Drug Run) held the same morning. We continued running along Bukit Tunku and came on a few more cops.

Near the Bank Negara train station, the "Urge" was irrestible and the blister on my left foot was also getting worse. I had to stop. I asked Yong to continue running. I walked and soon the front runners of the A.D. run appeared. Chen was just behind the front runner group. We waved to each other. I started to run again but hhen a big crowd surged from behind. The entire road was filled and I had to walk on the side walk.

After the crowd passed by, I started to run again back to Bukit Aman. I saw many runners standing around and I guess talking about the 15 km route. Met Ajeep who mentioned about eh hilly and tough 15 km route. Met Azwar wearing his Kenyir Triathlon T-shirt.

Umm, one last thing. I satisfied my "urge" in the toilet. I should not go through this crap (no pun intended) again.

Thursday Night Run at KLCC

I started running quite late at KLCC today. Only managed to reach the park at 6.50 pm. I ran the first 2 km alone. The regulars like Yan and the botak(bald) chinese guy (dun know his name) had finished their runs.

Luckily Newton and Cheong was still running so I joined them at 2.0 km. If not for them. I would have only run 4 km. After Newton stopped, Cheong and myself continue running in the semi-dark conditions. We chatted a lot while we were running. Later he stopped but I kept going. After 2 more laps, I checked my watch and it showed 7.50 pm. It was getting late - it was time to stop as I had completed 8 km.

Running at night is definitely more refreshing due to the cooler temperature and the atmosphere is quite different. I may do more night runs in the future.

Bought a music CD today at Tower Records; Sky kisses Earth by Prem Joshua. I am listening to it now- it's quite good as the music has an interesting blend of Indian and Western instruments.

This CD can be found in the New Age section. There are lots of New Age /Ambience CDs around but most the music are quite bland. You really have to choose artist and CD carefully.

I am still looking for Acid Jazz compilation CD but so far haven't found it at the Towers Record at KLCC. May have to drop by at the larger Tower Record store at KL Plaza this weekend.

Beggars at LRT Station

Akthough I am at work, I feel a blog coming up.

I take the LRT to work every day and every day there will be beggars near the LRT stations. I see the same indivividual to the last details. So to let me introduce them to this blog's readers. Here is the line-up :-

At KLCC LRT station:-
A tall thin man dark skin wearing a kopiah (skull cap) stands erect holding a box. Technique:
Pasted to the box is a sign board that says:
Former Army staff
Chronic patient
Suffering from Tubercolosis, Asthma, Diabetes and Kidney failure
Please donate and god will bless you!

Usually wears a "Baju Melayu" (Malay suit) , either white or green colour.

This afternoon at 1.00 pm , he was at Ampang Park LRT station.

At Central Market:
Begg#1: Chinese man, late 20's tanned skin. Wears a collared T-shirt and shorts.
Technique: Sits on the ground, cross legged, make sounds as if mentally disabled (Autistic ?). Head cocked to one side while making sounds. Holds a paper cup for the donations. Also makes eye contact.
Has trouble walking, one legs is skeletal.

Begg#2 : Chinese man, lates 30's . Fair skin and dischevelled looking. Wears and old filthy T-shirt and shorts. Missing one leg so he usually stands supported by crutches. Smells bad.
Technique : No specific techique employed but wears a bored and hard-up expresssion on his face. Hold a plastic cup.

Begg#3 : Malay man, mid 30's . Thin with long hair, tanned skin. Wears a baju melayu and sarong. Missing one leg.
Technique: sits on the ground on newspaper, hold paper cup. Silent and has belligerent expression.

Begg#4 Indian man, late 50's . Bald with white hair. Wears a short sleeve shirt and pants. Technique : Sits on the grounds, asks for donation and a "minta kesian" (Pitiful) expression. Hands cupped and raised while asking for donation.

Occasionally crashes out near the stairs or lift in drunken state.

Note Begg#2 and #3 sometimes argue with each other as both are stationed themselves at the bottom of escalator.

The weather is good today so I will be running at KLCC park.

Labour Day Week Running Activities

Monday was a public holiday for Malaysia due to Labour Day (May 1). Power to the worker ! I supposed I had to say that but over the years , I have pretty much ignored the labour day celebration or its significance in Malaysia.

As usual, Cuepacs, the public sector union made the usual noises about more renumeration for the goverment employees. This time they are asking for 13 months wage in a year. Their rationale? 52 weeks in a year divided by 4 weeks in a month makes 13 months. Did I miss something here? That is the stupidest thing I've heard from Cuepacs.

As for running, it was a low key week.

Friday
On Friday, I ran at KLCC with Newton for 9.1 km. Azwar was also there and I had a chance to chat with him.

Saturday
Saturday saw me at the National Registration Dept to apply for MyKad. MyKad is an smart card to replace the national identification card (IC). It's supposed to be smart card but from its limited functionality as an IC, driving license and cash card it didn't seem to be too smart. It took 2 hrs wait to finally finish the application process.

On Saturday evening when I was at Klang stadium, I found out there was a breakfast run organised by the Klang Pacer club on Sunday. I was planning to run 20 km at Bukit Aman so I may give the breakfast run a miss. Saturday was rest day but I felt the urge to do some track run. Did 400 m x 4 to loosen up.

Sunday
I decided not to run 20 km and instead went to Klang stadium. As I was walking inside the stadium, I saw Kong and Balan outside the stadium. I joined them for a run around the housing estates. We started off at a torrid pace, 5 km per min. , way too fast for a pre-breakfast run. After 7 km, I was quite tired and had to slow down. I joined Jimmy, Phang and another Klang pacer to run a a much slower pace back to Klang stadium. When we reached the stadium, I checked my watch, 58 min. for about 10 km. After the run, I had breakfast with the rest of the Klang pacer runners.

On Sunday evening, I met Ajeep riding on his new bicycle.

Monday
I was supposed to run 20 km but I woke up late.

After breakfast I headed out to Putrajaya. My main aim was to visit Alamanda, the new shopping centre. During the Nilai run, I had to cancel my trip to Alamanda because of a bad traffic jam near the entrance. The usual shops were there and nothing special. The food court with about 20 shops was quite good.

After leaving Alamanda, I spent sometime driving around Putrajaya. I decided to return to Klang via Banting. But I got lost somewhere near Banting and ended up driving on small roads along villages and palm oil estates. Nevetheless it was quite interesting to observe the activities around the villages and estates.

Eventually I found the main road back to Banting and then back to Klang.

It rained heavily at 3.30 pm. I had to wait until the rain stopped before I could go to Shah Alam. Did a 8 km run around the lake. Some parts of the jogging track were covered with earth and became slippery. After running in such a humid condition, I was drenched in sweat. I only finished running at 7.10 pm and by this time ,almost everyone had left the park.
