I was not in mood to run yesterday. Maybe I ate too much food during lunch time (Asam Laksa and Air Batu Campur). Maybe it was that and the thought of going to Genting Highlands and missing out on the Cops run on Sunday morning. It had just stopped raining when I started running at about 5.50 pm. I started sluggishly, arms and legs moving in a uncoordinated manner. It was going to be a bad running day.
After running one lap, I met Newton. He was thorughly wet having ran 7 laps in the rain. I joined him and gradually regained my rhthm. At the 2nd lap, we saw Jamie standing near the mosque area. I decided to stop to talk to Jamie. He mentioned Jessica would be running here too. A few minutes later, she turned up. We chatted and the rain started again. The ever gentleman Jamie offered to Jessica his climafit and cap. While he went to retrieve them, Jess and I sought shelter under one of huts.
Jamie returned soon after and gave the cap to Jess. He don the Climafit ready ro face the heavy rain. As we started to run, Newton joined us. The rain was heavy and my shoes became soggy. It didn't matter as I enjoyed running in the rain. After maybe 2 laps, Justine joined us too.
Together we ran at a a slow pace of 7 min 45 seconds per lap. None of us was aiming to run fast or break a personal record. We just wanted to run, enjoy running and enjoy each other's company. I guess running is not always a solitary activity. Sometimes it's good or even necessary to run alone but at other times, it's a social activity, running among friends who share the enjoyment of running.
I lost count the numbers of laps we ran, maybe it was 4 to 5 laps. Jamie, Newton and I stopped at about 7.20 pm. Justine and Jess continue running along the rain soaked track and hazy street lights.
It was an enjoyable run for me. I started out in no mood to run but as I ran, I understood why I ran and how it can become a positive thing to do. Those who don't run or execrcise regularly are missing out on the essential and pure form of a life experience. There is nothing like the physical effort , heart pumping, breaths heaving, every cell in the body and mind focused towards a single activity.
I have to stop now. It's time to start my trip to Genting. I will be bringing my running gear with me, of course.
