USA Trip Report - Very Brief

I was in the USA last week for a business trip. I spent one night in Los Angeles but I can't write much about it as I didn't leave the hotel after I had checked in at about 6.00 pm. The next day I took a flight to Houston, Texas. The USA has one the highest obesity rates in the worlds and while I was in Houston, I figure out why.

Nobody walks very far to go anywhere in Houston. When my colleague and I wanted to walk to the company office located about 10 minutes away, the hotel staff told us not to walk there. They said we might be run over by a vehicle, in the worst case by one of the monster 18 wheeler trucks. So we didn't walk and took the hotel shuttle bus. When we ate, we were faced with huge amounts of food.

The second thing I noticed is the US economy is really bad shape. Every day, there are some bad news written in the newspaper about the US economy. The shopping centres are noticeably devoid of shoppers eevn during lunch time.

I didn't run a single step while I was in the USA. I only started running on Sunday (3.2 km) and Monday (3.6km).

wow, that's a bad outlook.

and i'm rather surprised by the american mindset - i guess due to the population there you can find a broad spectrum of ppl - from the very hardcore to pure lazy!

I want to say it's the same anywhere in the world, to some healthy living is something they associate with freaks, then I think of Japan. The Japanese walk/cycle a lot, it's a common mode of transport, and they have a healthier diet than most of us in other parts of the world, tho fast foods and oily cuisines are becoming more popular during the last decade. An obese person is hard to find in Japan.
