This morning I took a look at the KLIM race results. Besides looking at the results of my runner friends, what I found interesting was the partipation according to race. I had a chance to analyse the statistics for Malay women/girls. Here are the results, percentage of Malay women/girls :-
- Women's Marathon, open: 19 runners of which 36 are Malaysian. Only 2 malay women (10%).
- Women's Marathon, veteran (age 35+): 50 runners of which 44 are Malaysian. Only 2 malay women(5 %).
- Women's Half marathon, open : 81 runners of which 73 are Malaysian. Only 8 malay women (11%).
- Women's half marathon, veteran (age 35+): 60 runners of which 47 are Malaysian. Only 3 malay women (6 %).
The pattern is for women runners below 35 years old, only 10% are Malay women, while for those above 35 years old, the percentage is halved to 5%.
Considering, Malays are 65% of the population in Malaysia, , Malay female "serious" runners are grossly under represented. Why? This subject will be featured in a future blog.

Rohaizad,
I like your analysis and I strongly believe we have many talented Malay ladies, esp those have married, who can really run or contribute positively to our sports standard. The main hurdle here is the culture and value of life that need to be changed.
That applied to Indian ladies too.
